Following her graduation at the Drama Centre London Duff made television appearances in Trial & Retribution Amongst Women as well as Aristocrats during the latter half of the 1990s. The actress first became famous for her role as Fiona Gallagher during the UK's Shameless series. The Virgin Queen (2006) featured her as Queen Elizabeth in The Virgin Queen, and she also performed the principal role in From Darkness (2015). Duff was in films like Enigma (2001) The Magdalene Sisters Notes on a Scandal (2006) French Film (2008) The Last Station and Nowhere Boy Before I Go to Sleep (2014) and Suffragette (2015). Duff was nominated to win BAFTA awards for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress as well as Best Actress in Shameless The Virgin Queen. In addition to that, she was awarded the BAFTA Cymru Award in Best Actress in 2007 for her performance in the TV movie The History of Mr Polly.
